Remembering a True Hero..

Posted by peace on 29th November 2007

Today is the birth anniversary of Gat Andres Bonifacio, the father of the Philippine Revolution born on November 30, 1863 to a poor couple in Tondo, Manila. Since I live here in Fort Bonifacio we have the reason to reminisce his courageous acts during his leadership in forming bonifacio.jpg the “Kataas-taasan Kagalang-galang na Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan (KKK) or Katipunan.”

Katipunan is a secret society aimed at gaining independence from colonial rule even through violent means if necessary. As I recalled my history this morning I can’t help but appreciate this Katipunan hero for his bravery. I believe that he somehow continuous to inspire the participants (and would be participants) of the likes of yesterday’s commotion in Makati Peninsula Hotel. The group of then Lieutenant turned Senator Trillanes believes they are again showing courage in pressing their demands for the Commander-In-Chief (PGMA) to resign in order to have the needed change for the better.

For sure the government also acted with the same fervor and brand of courage in handling the crisis considering that many citizens are sure to be affected. No matter how history judges our actions today, the influence of Andres Bonifacio’s nationalistic and brave concerns will continue to run in every Filipinos veins — Be it self induced or as a mere justification for our actions.

Maligayang Kaarawan Gat Andres Bonifacio! Mabuhay ang mamamayang Filipino! Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!

“show a bit of RESPECT”

Posted by peace on 28th November 2007

respect.jpgIt starts within ourselves, our parents teach us loving ways to show respect, and in return we do the same, this is the least that we can do to show our gratefulness for their love and care. Parents may also bend down to show an equality of respect for children. These that equality of honor each other may reign within the family.

But a culture of rudeness has become a feature of modern society. Being a polite and courteous person makes one a rare individual in today’s world. Politeness, and a genuine concern for the rights and feelings of others in our society seems to have slammed the door in our faces.

The reason why I urge myself to feature this thing we called “respect” because of what I have experienced last night with my housemaid, I won’t trouble you with the details, except for one thing amidst of her chores she was like doing it in an angry manner that made my dishes broke into pieces. Out of professionalism and understanding I prefer to calm down myself. Apparently, I didn’t like the gestures she have shown to me, to my husband and to my kids. It’s very appalling to know that you have somebody in your household who shows so much disrespect.

I chose not to aggravate the situation because it will just cause too much efforts and pressures I’ll just thought that the reason why she acted that way maybe because something’s bothering with her I just can’t help but feel disappointed and sad that her parents were not be able to nurtured her properly.

During our younger years we learned to do things by watching the older people in our family. Having positive roles will teach us positive ways to live. Politeness and common courtesy are more likely to achieve success, in business and in life, than a selfish, bullying attitude. Whether in our personal relationships with others, or in our workplace, being polite and well-mannered pays off in many ways.

sharing out of blogging..

Posted by peace on 25th November 2007

Success comes in many forms. But whether it is winning the top plum in the competition or simply finishing a task or a mission it is driven by one force: “Confidence.”feed.jpg

I earned my confidence in blogging when a friend introduced me this stuff few months ago though I’ve learned it for quite sometime but it did not show interests on my part not until she encourages me to at least use my talent in expressing my thoughts in pen into blogging just to have an experience on how to wander in the world of blogosphere. Thinking that I wouldn’t lose anything of giving it a try so here I am now starting to pick-up the pieces of my life for you to have a glimpse of my own world.

I then realized that in doing so I’m going to earn with it, so as what my fellow bloggers have told me its like hitting two birds with one stone because aside from earning you will also learn to explore the world of writing. On my part, I have learned, earned and shared, shared because I put all my earnings in blogging into a charitable institution whose program is to help feed the street children and the less fortunate ones. Though it’s not liquid enough to feed thousand’s of people but it is of great help to augment the funds that we have to fulfill our mission. I engaged myself in different charities but there is one charity that needs more attention not only by me but with everyone who are willing to share and help. We have a feeding program every twice a month that would at least help make their lives a bit lighter and could at least make them happy.

Since yuletide season is just around the corner, nuns from a certain congregation and I are busy preparing to materialize our feeding program aside from giving some gifts to our less fortunate brothers and sisters. Spending a bit of my time and sharing a bit of what I have to them would satisfy and make me happy.(it’s really fulfilling huh!)

I would like to end this post, by extending my gratitude to you all who continuously reading my blogs, to BTOP for giving me the chance to be a part of the team, you just don’t know how much you are helping those people who are the lucky recipients of those blessings. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

How much does a miracle cost?

Posted by peace on 21st November 2007

I know we’ve passed this message on a number of times but still this story is a gentle reminder of the gift of unconditional love and of friendship…

A little girl went to her bedroom and pulled a glass jelly jar from its hiding place in the closet.

She poured the change out on the floor and counted it carefully. Three times, even. The total had to be exactly perfect. No chance here for mistakes.

Carefully placing the coins back in the jar and twisting on the cap, she slipped out the back door and made her way 6 blocks to Rexall’s Drug Store with the big red Indian Chief sign above the door.

She waited patiently for the pharmacist to give her some attention, but he was too busy at this moment. Tess twisted her feet to make a scuffing noise. Nothing. She cleared her throat with the most disgusting sound she could muster. No good. Finally she took a quarter from her jar and banged it on the glass counter. That did it!

“And what do you want?” the pharmacist asked in an annoyed tone of voice. I’m talking to my brother from Chicago whom I haven’t seen in ages,” he said without waiting for a reply to his question

“Well, I want to talk to you about my brother,” Tess answered back in the same annoyed tone. “He’s really, really sick..and I want to buy a miracle.”

“I beg your pardon?” said the pharmacist.

“His name is Andrew and he has something bad growing inside his head and my Daddy says only a miracle can save him now. So how much does a miracle cost?”

“We don’t sell miracles here, little girl. I’m sorry but I can’t help you,” the pharmacist said, softening a little

“Listen, I have the money to pay for it. If it isn’t enough, I will get the rest. Just tell me how much it costs.”

The pharmacist’s brother was a well dressed man. He stooped down and asked the little girl, “What kind of a miracle does your brother need? ”
” I don’t know,” Tess replied with her eyes welling up. I just know he’s really sick and Mommy says he needs an operation. But my Daddy can’t pay for it, so I want to use my money.”

“How much do you have?” asked the man from Chicago .

“One dollar and eleven cents,” Tess answered barely audibly.

“And it’s all the money I have, but I can get some more if I need to.”

“Well, what a coincidence,” smiled the man. “A dollar and eleven cents—the exact price of a miracle for little brothers. ”

He took her money in one hand and with the other hand he grasped her mitten and said “Take me to where you live. I want to see your brother and meet your parents. Let’s see if I have the miracle you need.”

That well dressed man was Dr.Carlton Armstrong, a surgeon, specializing in neuro-surgery. The operation was completed free of charge and it wasn’t long until Andrew was home again and doing well.

Mom and Dad were happily talking about the chain of events that had led them to this place.

“That surgery,” her Mom whispered. “was a real miracle. I wonder how much it would have cost?” Tess smiled. She knew exactly how much a miracle cost…one dollar and eleven cents….plus the faith of a little child.

In our lives, we never know how many miracles we will need. A miracle is not the suspension of natural law, but the operation of a higher law. I know you’ll keep the ball moving!

The Power of Right Thinking..

Posted by peace on 21st November 2007

An experienced mental chemist could analyze a person’s character, even if a stranger, and tell what discordant thought or vicious ideal is casting its fatal shadow upon his personality. (I’ve learned this when I had a nice chat with a psychologist friend).

Things have just the power over us with which we endow them. That which strikes terror to ones person’s heart and paralyzes his efficiency may not cause another even to wince. I know a few persons who have so trained their thought that they allow nothing to shake them from their center.

One, for example, has lost all his property, all his family, and he is left alone in the world a poor and homeless old man. Yet no one can ever detect a tremor of complaint or a weakness anywhere in his nature, simply because he has so completely learned the “science of right thinking” that he can shut out of his mind or neutralize with its mental antidote anything which would cause him pain or injury. He neutralizes discord with harmony, error with truth.

He has become such an adept at mental chemistry that the very moment he is touched with the poison of hatred and jealousy, he antidotes it with love, the spirit of good-will. The shafts of malice and envy can not get near him. He looks upon these things as no part of the truth of his being.

When you are suffering from fear or worry, you may be sure you have endowed something with this power over you, otherwise it could not have gained such a hold. The very fact that you fear, it shows that you have established between it and yourself a relation which you could break if you only knew how to apply your mental chemistry.

I’ve learned so much from this friend of mind his ideas are very informative that at that very moment I came to realized that whenever we are unhappy, distressed, “blue,” worried, it is due to some mental poison, which ought to be as easy to antidote as it is to destroy fire with water.

calamity!

Posted by peace on 20th November 2007

It’s been a week now that the wheather is not quite helpful to man in the sense that some places were suffering from floods which causes our brothers and sisters huge calamities, especially to the people in far flung areas. As I’ve learned on the news, each local governments have already prepared places for families to stay for the meantime while wheather is not doing good yet and advised the people from the affected areas to evacuate to spare themselves from danger. Well, I just hope that calamity funds would also be ready for those who are really in need.

In a way, to those who are not affected it helps because rain flushes all the dusts in our house roofs, in our yards, everything! for that matter, it cleanses in fact all the dusty areas and waters our plants too, it would be a big help for water conservation. But not to the people who are suffering right now. I pity on them especially the children. I can’t help but worried to those who are affected, who are even died because of heavy rains, and heavy floods.

I considered this a call of nature this is actually beyond our control all we can do is to pray harder to refrain us from such calamities. And for those who are gone I hope and pray that God will bring them to eternal life. Maybe this is God’s call for us to realize that there is still somebody up there who runs our life and only Him knew where on earth each and everyone of us will be going.

what would it be?

Posted by peace on 17th November 2007

Around 12 noon yesterday Johnboy my 11 year old son called to inform me that their school is letting them go early and asked to be picked up. Since I needed something from the supermarket I volunteered to pick him up right after I finished some errands. The supermarket is just across his school.

On our way home, he told me that they have this debate in their Language class on what to choose between family and wealth and that everybody in the class except for himself have chosen family rather than wealth.

So I asked him “why did you choose wealth?” “Because if I have lots of money mommy, I could have the chance to enjoy bad nose surgery correction.” I then directly looked straight to my son’s nose and remembered an incident that happened 8 years ago, when I noticed a gaping wound on his nose caused by a bad fall from our stairs.

I remembered how scared I was at that time and how guilty I felt of not being able to do anything to fix it. And now it is just a scar that had marked my son’s face for many years now.

Building a Dream!

Posted by peace on 17th November 2007

My husband and I are discussing how to put up a business that could somehow help us augment his income and meet both ends. To start with the business we planned to sell our house and lot in Makati since we are not that liquid to start an agreed business in construction. It will surely need bigger capital. We decided that we will apportion half of the proceeds from the sale of the property to the business and the rest will be put in a savings and loan bank that could earn as much as 18% annually.

Our plan is to buy a less costly lot, build a house then sell it. In the past, we have talked to people who are very much interested with such properties. So we feel that there is future in real estate.

While searching and browsing for properties in the internet I came across the website of Lindemann Yachts and can’t help dreaming that one day if God allows our construction business to prosper then maybe we could buy a portion of lot somewhere in the British Virgin Islands.

cover girl looks

Posted by peace on 17th November 2007

Don’t feel bad about the pictures of celebrities and models in magazines, or in televisions. You’d look great too if you had a professional makeup artist, a stylist, and a professional photographer armed with lights and reflectors. And magazines have one tool that ordinary women don’t have: Photoshop. They clean up flaws pixel by pixel on the computer screen.

And there’s a beauty treatment that sort of works on the same principle: Manhattan botox, It’s like a treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people ages 18 to 65. Be aware of the most common side effects (based on my research) following injection include temporary eyelid droop and nausea, localized pain, infection, inflammation, will arise but it subsides after a few days. Just be very sure that you are emotionally and physically ready with the procedure.
